Rebellion Rockstar You Shook Me All Night Long: An earth shaking cigar?

I have had a selection of Rebellion Rockstar cigars sitting in my humidor for a while now and having smoked and enjoyed both the Paradise City, which I did a video review of, and the Ace of Spades, I decided it was time that I sampled another cigar from the range. My choice this time was the “You Shook Me All Night Long”. As an apparently medium bodied cigar, this seemed an appropriate smoke for a hot summer evening.

As with the rest of the Rebellion Rockstar range, this cigar carried the distinctive hot pink and black branding with the flaming skull on its primary band and the name of the cigar taking up most of the secondary band. It felt firm and well packed, though I did notice that there was a slight hole in the foot. Aromas of sweet and creamy, toasted brioche tickled my nose and subtle aromas of cookie dough and leather were also present. The easy cold draw backed up these notes and I was looking forward to what treats lay in store for me.

Once lit, I found the leather flavour a bit more forward, and backed up by a sweet baking spice. A couple of draws later, this revealed itself as ground ginger with walnuts playing a supporting role. To my surprise, whilst the smoke looked sinuous in the air, it had little to no weight in my mouth. I wasn’t long into the first third when notes of cumin started to appear, taking over from the sweeter ginger.

Upon entering the middle third, I noticed a marked shift in the flavour profile of the You Shook Me All Night Long. The taste became decidedly smoky with cocoa, bay leaf and moist earth coming to the fore. I also noticed that the butteriness that I smelt at the start. The hole in the foot had posed no issues to me and both burn and construction were good with the ash sitting neatly as light grey balls in my ashtray.

As I hit the final third, the flavour started to get muddy and indistinct. A good blow through of the cigar helped clear things up, but I was still left with the taste of over brewed, bitter coffee in my mouth. There was also a distinct aroma of spent fireworks lingering in the air. Whilst some of this could have come from the blow through, it was fair to say the smell had been building for quite a while.

With about an inch of the cigar left, I laid it to rest in my ashtray and finished off the last mouthful of my cocktail. I was a little disappointed that the “You Shook Me All Night Long” ended with a lacklustre final third after a strong and enticing opening half, although not every cigar can be a top pick. I can well imagine this being an undistracting cigar for someone to enjoy whilst gardening or out on the golf course, but I can’t say that I’ll be in a hurry to smoke this one again.
