Frightleberry Murzenquest Cocktail: An interesting concoction
Sometimes you know exactly what to expect from a cocktail just by its name. In the case of the Frightleberry Murzenquest, I didn’t really have a clue as to what I was letting myself in for, but it sounded interesting so I took a look at it and see what was involved. I mean, with I name like that, you can’t help but take a quick look to see what’s in it.
Okay, let’s be very honest here. I fancied a vodka cocktail, but it was a bit too early for a vodka martini and I didn’t really fancy a long drink like a Screwdriver so I searched for vodka cocktails that used some lime, as I had a surfeit of them that needed using up. So I grabbed my phone and put “vodka” and “freshly squeezed lime juice” into the ingredients search, selected “Martini glass” and took a look at what came up.
Of the 93 cocktails that were suggested, there were a good number with other fruit juices, which I didn’t really fancy, or used liqueurs that I didn’t have in my drinks cupboards. When I reached the Frightleberry Murzenquest, the name alone compelled me to take a look. Alongside a good measure of vodka, there was the aforementioned lime juice as well as a small amount of Maraschino liqueur, Galliano, Triple Sec and orange bitters.
The Frightleberry Murzenquest turned out to be a really tasty concoction. There was a good balance between the sweet fruitiness of the Galliano and triple sec, the sharp, tartness of the fresh lime juice and the bitterness of the orange bitters and Maraschino liqueur. To try this fantastically named cocktail, check out the recipe below.
