Vampire Bat Cocktail: Perfectly Ghoulish Craft Gin Halloween Tipple
Welcome to the witching month! My October started in fine fashion with a delivery from the Craft Gin Club – this time it was the appropriately spooky Whitby Gin Demeter Edition.
Whitby has long been associated with Dracula and spooky goings on, so to capitalise on this link the latest Ginned Magazine that accompanies the delivery is full of suitibly monsterous drinks, including this cocktail recipe. The original recipe called for equal measures of gin and port with quite a lot of lemon juice, and a good glug of maple syrup. Knowing how I prefer my cocktails I adjusted the quantities a little and ended up with a nicely fruity little number with a hint of tartness from the lemon that didn’t overpower the gin and port.
Also included with my gin of the month was just about the cutest thing I have ever seen: a minature bottle of Angostura Orange Bitters. I couldn’t bring myself to open it for the couple of dashes that this cocktail recipe calls for, but luckily I have a full sized bottle in my drinks cupboard so I used that instead.
