English Rose Martini Cocktail: A pleasantly patriotic tipple
It has occurred to me that I haven’t shared a cocktail recipe on my blog for quite a while. It’s not that I haven’t been mixing up and enjoying cocktails, but my YouTube channel has rather taken over my life. I am determined to get back on the cocktail recipe wagon though, so I thought I’d share this luscious tipple with you that I mixed up back in July when England’s men faced off against Italy’s in the Euro 2020 football finals.
Feeling rather patriotic, I thought that a quintessentially English cocktail was called for. My mind immediately turned to a Martini with London Dry gin, and what gin is more British than Beefeater? After a little hunting around though, I found a nice sounding twist on the traditional martini. Alongside the usual gin and dry vermouth, some apricot brandy, a dash of grenadine was added with some lemon juice to balance the sweetness.
I went a little easy on the grenadine and upped the gin a little as I don’t like my martinis too sweet. The resulting English Rose Martini was a beautiful pink blush colour. As my highly fragranced roses were still in full bloom, I thought it only appropriate to float a couple of rose petals on the top of my concoction to add an extra layer of aromatics to this lovely dessert cocktail. And Hey Presto! I had my tipple to see me through the match… okay, maybe just the first half.
